Moving Can Be Costly-Reduce it!-Part Two

Make sure you read Part One of Moving Can be Costly-Reduce it! from Moving Squad before you read on.

Be Cognicent of What You're Taking With You
You don't want to be gathering up everything in your home and just dumping it in boxes. Only take the necessities and if you need to, check out our Moving Squad reviews from previous customers for some advice on what to take. You shouldn't feel like you're leaving parts of your home behind but it's good to purge and get rid of those unnecessary items you really never used anyway. Most companies charge according to the quantity of items to be moved so if you can get rid of that huge dresser you've had in the garage but forgot about, you should. You'll never even miss it.

Many people who are moving don't even think to pack up their car. If you can do it by yourself without the help of your movers, that's even better. You should try to have as little in the truck as possible if you're trying to reduce cost. Pack as many small items that will fit in boxes as you can and those things can ride in the car with you and your family.

Garage Sales and Donations
Moving is an ideal time to get rid of the things you don't use or want anymore. Have a garage sale! It's a great way to put some cash in your hand and get rid of some things you didn't even realize you still had. Someone will want them, right?

Some neighborhood association groups actually have rules against garage sales, so in that case your best bet may be to donate your items. Find a Salvation Army or other local charity and call them up to let them know what you have. If the items are especially large or you have a lot of boxes/bags, many organizations will just send someone to pick them up rather than you having to drop them off. It's easy, it's a great way to get rid of your stuff and you'll feel better for having done it.

Cut the Length of Your Move
The time it takes to move you is a major factor in the final price tag of your relocation, so the goal is to try and lower the amount of time it rakes for your movers to have the job done. To do this, it's important to disassemble everything that can be taken apart before movers arrive. Don't knock yourself out, but if there is an especially large or cumbersome item in your home that can easily be taken apart and moved, it should be. Be sure to also clean all your belongings prior to the move so it makes your things easier for your movers to handle and get out of your home.

The number of miles between your old and your new home is also a huge time and money factor in your move. You can't control the number of miles from one spot to the other and you shouldn't fixate on them, but it does affect the final cost of your move. You can look for and hire movers who are sympathetic to the mileage and will work with you.
