It's Moving Day! We Go Over the Questions You Should Ask Your Landlord

There can be some snags with apartment move-ins. Have you ever moved into an apartment building before? Even if you have, there can be different rules and regulations for each building depending on where you're living. Check out some of our Moving Squad reviews for insight on what our previous customers might have to say about their experience asking questions about their move. You may find some answers! Asking the right questions will save you some time and a whole lot of moving-day stress.

When Can You Move?
The last thing you want when your movers are downstairs and ready to move you in is to hear that they can't. You should have a talk with your landlord and tell him/her about your moving schedule. Find out if there are specific moving day hours and make sure your move is taking place within them. Most buildings will allow move-ins during the normal work day (9-5), but you should make sure just in case. Are you moving into a ground floor apartment? The regulations may be different because you're not making use of the elevator or stairwell, and you may be able to extend the hours you're able to move.

Many buildings don't allow move-ins on weekends for various reasons. If you work during the week and won't be taking off to move on a weekday, this could be a problem and you should go over the issue with your landlord. Who knows? They may let you slide just this once.

Is There a Moving Entrance?
These are common depending on which city you live in. High rise apartments in larger cities like New York and Los Angeles usually have a special entrance designed to help people moving in. These entry ways are usually wide with double doors so that your large, sharp or heavy items won't potentially cause damage to the main lobby or entryway. Oftentimes these special entrances will also be equipped with ramps rather than stairs to minimize awkward lifting. Check to see if your building has a back or side entrance and your movers will probably thank you.

How Do You Get Your Stuff Up There?
Whether you've hired movers or you've decided to move yourself, having a special elevator for your moving day will really benefit you. Freight elevators are larger, can hold more, and often go faster because they're not making stops for the other residents in the building going up to their floors.
